A Walkthrough of our Home

Welcome to our home, but literally welcome. We thought it might be fun to give you a walk through of our home as is right now. We moved into this beauty in Brooklyn a few months ago and are having fun making the space feel like ours. There are lots of fun projects we want to do, and will document here, but our main focus has been getting the house ready for the arrival of some kiddos ( if you missed that check out our other announcement post)

We documented these in the evening so the lighting is very moody. Lets just pretend we invited you over for a late night coffee, there are cookies in the oven and a warm cup in your hand. Welcome..

The Living Room

It’s one big open space that is also open to our office, kitchen, and dining area. We love the open space and how it creates an instant feeling of togetherness no matter where you are in the downstairs.

All of our furniture is salvaged, refurbished, or bought secondhand. One of our favorite pieces is this West Elm Henry Leather Sofa that we got for FREE from this super cool couple in Soho that posted it on CL (Ps. cute couple: if you’re reading this we want to be your friends and hang out for real..but in a totally chill way, not in a creepy way). We have big plans with paint and such but for now this off white yellow-y color in the entire house isn’t terrible.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is all along the back wall of the house and has one big island that goes between the kitchen area and the living area/dining area. After living in a 77 foot camper I have no idea what we are going to fill those cabinets with, in fact we plan not to. We’ll use the island storage for our company supplies. We put this cute grocery sign up because behind that back window is a long glassed in greenhouse that we are currently growing some herbs and small plants in. We hope to build some hanging planters and really make it an outdoor homegrown grocery to teach our future kiddos about where our food comes from and also because it doesnt get any fresher than your own backyard/greenhouse.

Bathroom + Laundry Nook

A cute little bathroom off to the right of the kitchen also has a laundry “nook” in the room to the left. The light in the laundry nook is broken so we weren’t able to take a picture but it needs a makeover anyway so..more coming soon! The bathroom has a small wooden cabinet sink and a shower/tub to the right. Also the door doesn’t close, like actually literally the door is too big for its frame so we just kind of hold it mostly closed with our foot, super classy. Nothing a good sanding can’t fix. We hope. There also seems to be about 20 layers of paint on everything, based on the layers that peek through where the landlord painted it white it seems like the last tenant favored orange, yellow and teal. Tropical skittle vibes.

The Dining Area

This little nook is what were calling the dining area. If you’re looking at the kitchen this is to the right of the kitchen. Technically there is enough space for a table to go in front of the island and still would leave plenty of room for the living room furniture… especially since we’re starting fresh and seeking out the pieces that will really fit into this home well but for now we like it open with the table tucked into this little area. We setup a little coffee supply cart as well that we’ve had for several years. I (Tabi) have a vision for a gray dipped wall here in this space or maybe some wallpaper with a big jute rug and a farmhouse table. Can you see it?

The Office Nook

To the left of the kitchen area is a funny little space that we’re not sure what to do with yet, so we’re calling it an office nook. Michael is using it as a music space and we have this fun mid century modern desk we found and refurbished that we put there plus my refurbishing and crafting materials as a space filler until we can figure out what to do with it. It seems like a space that was closed off at one point and now that its opened up to the rest of the downstairs it’s a bit strange. See that door to the left? The landlord calls it a utility closet because there are some exposed pipes from a hot water heater, but its easily a small bedroom. Especially by Brooklyn standards. So eventually we plan to make it into a guest space but for now it’s storage for the furniture we’re currently refurbishing.

Upstairs Rooms

The upstairs has three bedrooms, a large one (with what New Yorkers would consider a “walk in” closet) a medium sized room big enough for a queen sized bed and a smaller room that basically only fits a twin. All of them have these super tall closets with a small square cubby storage(?) closet on top of the wardrobe closet. Good for suitcases or something square-ish? We haven’t’ been able to get them open because the landlord had them painted white (see above re: the tropical skittles color triad debacle) and I guess they didn’t bother to open the top closets before painting so they are painted shut. For all we know there may be a squatter in there.. only time will tell. For now we have the rooms “staged” as kid friendly spaces, including a bassinet and crib in ours so that we can take in kiddos between the ages of 0-7 but we'd like to get some fun magical painting and decor done in these rooms.
